The scale of email communication – which underpins post-trade operations in financial services – is unparalleled. A custodian bank may need to, at a conservative estimate, manage more than one million emails per year pertaining to external counterparty queries and more than double that on internal enquiries. At the same time, the challenges of email comms are well documented: from the risk of ‘fat finger’ error to the pain of auditing unstructured data.
